FAQs

Question: Why can't I sign in with Firefox/Opera/etc?
Answer: Because XBList shares cookies with Internet Explorer. Fortunately, sign-in is the only thing you have to use Internet Explorer for. XBList will open all other web pages with whatever your preferred browser is. And once you're signed in, you shouldn't ever have to sign in again.
Question: How does XBlist work?
Answer: XBList downloads the Friends List page from Xbox.com and reformats it to look nicer, and adds in the Halo 2 emblems and Gamer Tiles and categories, etc. Thus, if Xbox.com goes down or has problems, XBList stops working. I don't know any better way to get the Friends List.
Question: Why does XBList need the .NET Framework?
Answer: XBList is developed in C#, using the .NET Framework. This means you need to have the framework installed for it to run.
Question: Does XBList steal my personal info?
Answer: No. Absolutely not. Not now, not ever. XBList is for you to view your gamertag. It does not communicate your Xbox Live Friends List, your Gamer Tag, your Passport credentials, or any other information. It talks to only 3 sites automatically: Xbox.com (for the friends list), Bungie.net (for the emblems) and my site (to check for updates only). It doesn't even do Passport login for you - it lets Internet Explorer do it, so you know I'm not faking the Passport site. However, I urge you to not take my word for it. Download Fiddler and use it to monitor XBList's communications. You'll see that it does not stealthily upload anything to my servers or anything like that.
Question: Will you open source XBList?
Answer: I have no plans to open source XBList.
Question: Will you port XBList to linux, Mac OS X, Windows Mobile, etc?
Answer: I have no plans to port XBList to any other platform. It's Windows-only.
Question: Will you make it into a Windows Sidebar gadget?
Answer: It's pretty complicated to make a sidebar gadget out of XBList, and I don't really see the need for it. I might add some sort of gadget display for XBList in the future.
Question: Will you make it into a Pidgin/Trillian/etc plugin?
Answer: I have no plans to make XBList into a plugin for any other program. It's standalone.
