Downloading and Installing XBList

First, download the XBList installer ZIP from the button on the right. Save it somewhere on your machine (don't choose to open it immediately). Then unzip the file you just downloaded. If you need software to unzip files, try WinRAR or WinZip. You should only have one file, called XBListSetup.msi.

Now you should be able to just double-click on XBListSetup.msi and follow along with the prompts. If it doesn't work, make sure you have Windows Installer 3.1 by visiting Windows Update or downloading it directly from Microsoft. You may also be told that you need the .NET Framework 2.0. If the installer doesn't help you get it, you can get it yourself from Windows Update or directly from Microsoft. XBList will work on .NET Framework 3.0 too.

Setting Up Accounts

A lot of things have changed since Xbox.com has relaunched. For one, signing up for an Xbox.com account that's linked to your gamertag is much easier. Just go to Xbox.com and click on the "My Xbox" link. Then follow the prompts there to create a My Xbox account and link it to your GamerTag and Passport account. Once you've done that, all you need to do is log into My Xbox using Internet Explorer, making sure to click "Save my email address and password", and then start up XBList. It should be able to grab your Friends List!

Note: As of this writing (11/11/05), the new Xbox.com does not allow people under the age of 18 to join Xbox.com. I'm sorry, but there's nothing I can do about it.
